An assessment is almost always undertaken with you to see what it is that you would like to work out with a psychologist.  Assessments can be brief if you and the psychologist have a shared view about what the difficulties are, or assessments can be comprehensive and contribute to a care plan or therapy plan.

Maxine can offer a variety of assessments at Tides Psychology Services.  These include:

  • Cognitive Assessment to look at a child or adult’s strengths and weaknesses in their learning style.  Sometimes parents and professionals want to understand more about a child’s individual learning style so their chances of settling in to a school setting can be maximised.  A cognitive assessment can help to build this picture and develop specific recommendations.
  • Assessment for therapy looks at what the difficulties are that a child or family might be experiencing and what type of therapy would be best suited to the child, family and situation.
  • Assessments for care planning and intervention are completed where the difficulties that a child or a family are having are really troubling.  It may be that a comprehensive plan that could involve different services and professionals will need to be developed.
  • Assessment for Court Proceedings can be completed with children and parents in both private and public law.  Maxine has over 9 years of experience completing work for courts where there are proceedings involving children.  Maxine is linked with other clinical psychologists who complete this kind of work and the assessment needs of the case can be matched with the skills of other psychologists, should the task be very specialist.
