Fostering and Adoption

Maxine’s work enables her to understand how children sometimes need care outside their birth family.  Her experience of completing work within child care proceedings means that she understands how decisions can be made in this process.  Maxine has worked with the legal profession, social workers and children’s guardians.  This enables her to explain to carers and adoptive parents how a child has come to need to live within a different family.  Maxine will work with Ofsted registered organisations to offer support to foster carers and adoptive parents.

Maxine has met and worked with many foster carers and adoptive parents.  She uses up to date knowledge and skills to help carers and parents care for their children, helping them to recover, as much as possible, from the effects of the trauma and disruption they have experienced.  Maxine uses Attachment Theory and Child Development to help parents and carers adapt their care so that children have the best chance of having healthy relationships, emotions and behaviours as they grow.

You may wish to start reading a little about these ideas before you feel the need to get in touch.  Some recommended books include:

“Creating Loving Attachments:  Parenting with PACE to Nurture Confidence and Security in the Troubled Child” - by Kim Golding & Daniel Hughes

“Nurturing Attachments:  Supporting Children who are Fostered and Adopted” - by Kim Golding

“Parenting from the Inside Out:  How a deeper self-understanding can help you raise children who thrive” - by Daniel Siegal & Mary Hartzell.

Maxine can also work with a school team to enable teaching staff to understand the very specific needs of a child who might be struggling to cope with the school environment because of past trauma.

Specialist training for foster carers, adoptive parents and professionals in fostering and adoption teams, can be provided with either already planned programmes or bespoke training.
